The Emile Guimet Gallery: a gallery of donors
The name attributed to this gallery is quite obvious. Indeed, Émile Guimet (1836-1918) was one of the oldest and most generous donors to the Lyon museum. The members of the Musée des Confluences have therefore decided to honour this famous industrialist from Lyon and this great traveller and collector. To give you an example, as early as 1878, Émile Guimet organised an exhibition on the religions of the Far East.
On the other hand, this new permanent exhibition has a special place in the museum. Above all, it highlights the life of the collectors. It also bears witness to the collective memory. The diversity of the collection will undoubtedly impress your staff. They will also be able to read the life stories of the donors. The collections presented in the museum’s showcases come from adventurers, anthropologists and ethnologists.
Finally, more than 100 professional events were organised in this gallery.
